Gary Lewis and Danish actor Soren Malling ('A Hijacking') co-star in the suspense thriller, set around a fatal accident on an offshore oil rig.
Irish actress Catherine Walker (Versailles) has signed on to star in Rig 45, a new English-language drama commissioned by Nordic pay TV outfit MTG Studios.
Walker will play Andrea, a investigator sent by a oil company to investigate a suspicious, fatal accident on one of its North Sea rigs. During her investigation, a hurricane slams into Rig 45, cutting off her and the crew — one of whom she suspects is a killer — from all communication with the outside world.
Outlander actor Gary Lewis and Denmark's Soren Malling (A Hijacking) will co-star in the series, which MTG will premiere on its Nordic video streaming service Viaplay in summer 2018. Per Hanefjord (TV3’s Black Widows) will direct. Mopar Media Group will produce with ITV International Distribution handling international sales for the series.
The series is the latest from the ambitious MTG, which has been extremely active in greenlighting both English and local-language dramas for its Viaplay service. The Swedish company has more than 50 scripted projects in the pipeline. Recent series include the L.A.-set Swedish Dicks, co-starring Keanu Reeves, which has just wrapped its second season; the porn-themed dramedy Veni Vidi Vici, which Hulu just picked up for the U.S.; and Scandinavian horror-thriller Black Lake, recently sold to BBC Four and AMC Networks' specialty channel Shudder.
